12 Days of Brexmas featuring the 12 Steps of the EU Settlement Scheme
Whilst most people start their countdown to Christmas, EU nationals all over the world are counting down to the end of the Brexit transition period.
On the first day of Brexmas Breytenbachs gave to me, guidance on the EU Settlement Scheme.
On the 31st of January 2020, the UK left the EU. This momentous event triggered the Transition Period which gave EU nationals living in the UK by the 31st December 2020 the opportunity to register their residency allowing them to continue living in the UK following Brexit.
This registration process is called the EU Settlement Scheme.
EU, EEA and Swiss Nationals will have until 30th June 2021 to apply under this scheme but it’s important to remember that you MUST be present in the UK by the 31st December 2020 to be eligible.
You will either be granted Settled or Pre-Settled Status depending how long you have lived in the UK.
On the second day of Brexmas Breytenbachs gave to me, guidance for my Family.
If your family members are also EU nationals, luck for you they will be following the same process as you! If your family member is a non-EU national, there is a slightly different process.
Certain non-EU family members of EU citizens can apply for either an EEA Family Permit or a EUSS Family Permit to come to the UK. Both of these permits are valid for 6 months and will allow the family member to join you to the UK under current EU Free Movement law.
Which permit you apply for will depend on the relationship and your status in the UK.
Fortunately, your non-EU family member is not strictly required to be in the UK prior to 31st December 2020, and can in fact come at a later date!
On the third day of Brexmas Breytenbachs gave to me, a consultation to discuss my eligibility
Whether you need to discuss your circumstances or those of your family members, we are here to help!
Meeting with one of our expert advisers is the first step to success. Your adviser will discuss your matter with you and assess all of the contributing factors. They will then use their expertise to advise as to the probability of success, devise a plan of action and answer any burning questions you may have.
The initial consultation is one of the most important stages as it really sets the baseline for the process, builds the confidence and rapport between client and consultant, and starts the ball rolling.
On the fourth day of Brexmas, Breytenbachs told me, to be here before the year’s end
It is super important that all EU nationals hoping to rely on the provisions under the EU Settlement Scheme are here by the 31st of December 2020!
On the fifth day of Brexmas, Breytenbachs gave to me, a breakdown of how to succeed
We will provide you with all of the guidance you need for a successful application. This will include the information required and a comprehensive list of documents to support your application. We will assess all elements of the application, the pros and cons, and fully brief you on the likelihood of success.
On the sixth day of Brexmas, I gave to Breytenbachs, documents to be reviewed
When preparing your application we will fully review any documents that will be submitted to the Home Office to ensure they meet all of the relevant criteria. This is a key stage of the application process as documents can make or break an application.
On the seventh day of Brexmas Breytenbachs submitted for me, my application to the EU Settlement Scheme
Once the application has been prepared and the documents approved, we will submit the application on your behalf. Now we sit back and wait!
On the eighth day of Brexmas Breytenbachs estimated for me, a time-frame of a decision
The time frame for getting a decision varies quite drastically. Once the application has been submitted it is in the hands of the Home Office which means turnaround time is dependent on their capacity. Generally, we see that the turn around can be anything from 24 hours to 3 weeks!
On the ninth day of Brexmas Breytenbachs gave to me, reassurance for the future
We guarantee our applications, subject to our Ts&Cs, and would not submit an application if we believed there was no chance of success. We will continue to support you, answer your questions and be available for reassurance every step of the way.
On the tenth day of Brexmas Breytenbachs gave to me, ten lawyers leaping
We are just as excited as you for a decision on your application. We really do invest all we can into each application and are overjoyed when our clients get the results they are looking for.
On the eleventh day of Brexmas Breytenbachs told me that my application did succeed!
Result! This is the news we have been waiting for and we are so pleased to be able to share this moment with you.
