The Home Office has confirmed that migrants who intend to leave the UK but have not been able to do so, and whose visa or leave expires between 1 September and 31 October 2020 may request additional time to stay. This extra time is known as exceptional assurance.
The exceptional assurance permission does not grant a person leave to stay in the UK, but will act as short-term protection against any adverse action or consequences after your leave in the UK has expired. You will be required to show evidence that you cannot leave the UK. This evidence will, for example, be in the form of confirmed flight tickets, but no available flights. If you cannot leave the UK due to a positive Covid-19 test, you will have to submit the positive test result as evidence.
The request for exceptional assurance to stay in the UK can be obtained by contacting the Home Office.
