Persons that want to visit SA from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and New Zealand are no longer required to have a visa to visit South Africa for holidays, conferencing and business meeting visits. This no requirement came into effect on 15 August 2019.
Nationals from Ghana, Cuba, Principe and Sao Tome will soon follow, and will able to visit SA without a visa. Negotiations with these four countries are still taking place. The South African Government is hoping to conclude negotiations by the end of August 2019. Implementation of the visa free status will take place soon thereafter.
The Minister of Home Affairs in South Africa, Dr Aaron Motoaledi, said that they are also engaging with these countries to see how they can reciprocate these arrangements for South African citizens. He further said that Qatar has already waived visa requirements for South Africans. South African will be able to attend the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022 easier.
The Minister of Home Affairs further said that they have already waived the visa requirement for 82 of the 193 countries who are members of the United Nations.
